CURRICULUM VITAE
Professor Dr Markus Schmid is a trained master butcher and business economist. He studied food technology and food processing at the University of Applied Sciences in Fulda and completed his doctorate at the Chair of Food Packaging Technology at the Technical University of Munich.
He worked as a research associate at the Fraunhofer Institute for Process Engineering and Packaging IVV in Freising. There he led the research focus "Biopolymers in paper and film applications". Since 2018, he is Professor at Albstadt-Sigmaringen University in the Faculty of Life Sciences, where he heads the Sustainable Packaging Institute SPI.
He has published numerous scientific papers in international journals on packaging related topics and is an appointed member of the editorial board of several scientific journals such as "Food Packaging and Shelf Life" (Elsevier). Since 2020, Prof. Dr Markus Schmid has been continuously listed in Stanford University's renowned ‘World's Top 2% Scientists List’, which honours the world's most cited scientists from various disciplines.
Furthermore, he is chairman of the DLG working group Food Packaging in the Supply Chain, appointed member of the Scientific Committee of the Research Association of Pharmaceutical Manufacturers e. V. and regional group leader South-West of the Association of German Packaging Engineers. Professor Schmid is a member of the doctoral centre of the Baden-Württemberg doctoral association, which has been granted the independent right to award doctorates.
